If Americans had to choose between driving a car that was beautiful on the outside vs. one that is "greener" on the inside, nearly eight in 10 Americans who plan to buy or lease a car within the next two years would choose a greener car.
GM Pledges Aid to Disaster Victims in China, Myanmar
General Motors announced that the General Motors Foundation and GM China have donated in excess of $1 million to support disaster victims in China and Myanmar. GM China has made donations of over $850,000 for local efforts; the GM Foundation has donated $200,000 to the American Red Cross, China Disaster Response Fund and $50,000 to the United Nations World Food Programme.
Mississippi State University Students Win GM and DOE Challenge X Competition
Mississippi State University, for the second consecutive year, has earned top honors in General Motors and the U.S. Department of Energy's Challenge X student engineering competition. The 2008 Challenge X: Crossover to Sustainability competition challenged 17 university teams from the U.S. and Canada to reengineer a Chevrolet Equinox that employs advanced powertrain technologies.
GM will introduce, starting in 2009, two new engines with significant fuel efficiency gains for vehicles marketed in Europe and other regions. The announcement was made at a GM Powertrain Europe event showcasing its comprehensive lineup of advanced propulsion technologies currently under development.
